The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) defines an accredited investor as a person who meets one of the following three requirements:
- Income: The person must have earned income exceeding $200,000 (or $300,000 together in joint income) in each of the prior two years, with the expectation of earning the same or higher income in the current year.
OR
- Net Worth: The investor has a net worth over $1 million, either alone or jointly with their spouse or spousal equivalent, excluding the value of the person’s primary residence
